i was tracking this cloud the whole afternoon, since i noticed it somewhere halfway between italy and dubrovnik. so while coming back from a long day of swimming and adventuring, i decided to stop one last time and shoot the long sought cloud, despite being past midnight... and despite stormy weather.
i liked this cloud because it was the first time i actually saw the threshold between the rain and... the other thing that's not rain? you can still see the rain quite well on this shot... and you can also see the strong wind blowing east. (it kind of reminds me of those icons you can see on weather forecast) and the calm sea with a patch of moonlight, far right on the horizon. after more than two and a half years, i'm uploading a sequel to light before storm. the tech stuff... well: idiotic brain needed to get that close to the lightings (shot this with 18mm lens). tripod of course, minute and a half exposure....and much skill to pre-focus in pitch black dark. no postprocessing. unmanipulated RAW conversion. |

Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer.
It makes you a Nikon owner. [link]

and i did consider prints, i've been trying to upload it for 2 days now, but everytime i upload it, it gets corrupt in the dA system. it's their fault and i can only keep trying - they're pretty passive about it.
so eventually there will be a print.

Thank you for captureing this for me to look at anytime I want.
And like Ben, I will buy a print of this when it becomes available.

these aren't the only lightings i captured, but i felt it wouldn't do any good to upload more shots that are very much alike.
p.s. the print is finally available, after a long debate with a computer at dA...
